Suminagashi is a traditional Japanese painting technique that suspends the soot of pine branches and rice paper on the water's surface. The impressions echo the movement of water, with rhythmic layers and fluid design. The ink penetrates the paper just as generational trauma pierces and ripples through every generation.

The Asian American experience is a tension of cultural dichotomies: privileged to serve as a bridge, yet cursed with the perpetual search for identity. Racist jokes and microaggressions create a feeling of never being American or Asian enough to fit in with either group completely.

Being Asian American, I find many lack the urgency to express intergenerational trauma for fear of negative repercussions. We all have lost stories, forgotten traditions, and history left unsaid.
